Cruising the Alaskan Coast
Set sail on the journey of a lifetime on an Alaskan cruise. Whether it is a traveler’s first trip or their tenth, an Alaska cruise in the best way to see as much of this beautiful state as possible in such a short time. Cruisers unpack once and get to visit multiple communities and national parks without hauling bags around.
Along the way, Alaska cruise passengers are offered a dizzying range of tour options in port cities. These range from rail excursions to zip-line tours to wildlife viewing or sport fishing. Many ships visit marine wonderlands like Glacier Bay National Park and Prince William Sound, where guests watch glaciers “calve” into the ocean in dramatic geologic displays.
The cruises that offer the most of Alaska feature weeklong itineraries from either Seattle or Vancouver to one of the ports in south central Alaska – Whittier or Seward. From there, guests are treated to a scenic rail journey north to Anchorage, where they continue on land-based tours or fly home. The trips are also offered in reverse, starting in Alaska and ending in Vancouver or Seattle.
Another route is called the Inside Passage Cruise. This cruise features a weeklong roundtrip itinerary from either Seattle or Vancouver. These cruises do not sail as far north, but still treat passengers to the grandeur of Alaska’s glaciers and gold rush country. Some of these cruises also offer the option of sailing one way and then continuing on with land-based tours to experience the beauty of the interior of Canada and Alaska.
